German Luminescence and ESR meeting

German Luminescence and ESR meeting

ABOUT DLED

The annual German Luminescence and Electron Spin Resonance dating (DLED) meeting allows luminescence and ESR dating experts from Central Europe to meet in order to present their latest research findings and to network. The meeting is usually held in Germany or one of its surrounding countries. DLED was last hosted by the MPI in Leipzig in 2008 and with the closing down of the Department of Human Evolution in 2021 this will be our final opportunity to host the meeting. We look forward to welcoming you in Colditz.

MPI OSL LAB

The luminescence laboratory at the Max Planck Institute for Evolutionary Anthropology was established by Daniel Richter in 2004. At present the laboratory has three Risø TL/OSL readers equipped with two single grain attachments (green and IR lasers) and one alpha source; one LexSyg Research with three PMTs (blue-green, red and nearIR-sensitive), EMCCD, an alpha source and two beta sources; and one LexSyg Smart capable of stimulating in the violet, blue, green, yellow, red and IR wavelengths.

The luminescence laboratory belongs to the Department of Human Evolution under the direction of Prof Jean-Jacques Hublin. The current team includes:

GETTING THERE

DLED2020 will be held at Colditz Castle which overlooks the Zwickau Mulde River. At almost 1,000 years, it is one of the oldest castles in Saxony and owes much of its recognition to its legendary prisoner of war camp during WW2 where important allied officers were imprisoned.

  • Arriving by car: Take the A14 until the exit “Grimma”, then continue on the B107 towards Colditz. Parking spaces for cars are available below the castle in the parking lot (~100 m away).
  • Arriving by public transport: Take the train to Grimma via Leipzig Hbf, then continue with the regional bus to Colditz or the regional train to Großbothen (connecting bus to Colditz) / stop in Colditz: “Sportplatz”.
  • Arriving by plane: Fly to Leipzig/Halle Airport and take the S-Bahn to Leipzig Hbf. Take the train to Grimma, and continue with the regional bus to Colditz or the regional train to Großbothen (connecting bus to Colditz) / stop in Colditz: “Sportplatz”.

We will organise a limited number of transfers from the train station in Grimma to Colditz. If you would like to take advantage of this service please let us know as soon as possible, including your travel itinerary, so that we can arrange this.
