The Municipality of Burgos collaborates with the CENIEH on the International Congress LED2020

Today sees the launch of the website and social networks for this scientific conference, whose sixteenth meeting is to be held in Spain for the first time, and which will bring together the world’s greatest experts in dating by Luminescence and Electron Spin Resonance, from July 13th through 17th

The Municipality of Burgos is going to collaborate with the Centro Nacional de Investigación sobre la Evolución Humana (CENIEH) in organizing LED2020, an International Congress whose website and social media are launched today, to publicize its sixteenth meeting, which will gather together over 400 experts in Luminescence and Electron Spin Resonance (ESR) dating, from July 13th through 17th next year, in Burgos.

This is the first time in the history of this event that the laboratories for each of the dating techniques have opted to organize it together, which point was fundamental for the candidature presented by the geochronologists Davinia Moreno and Gloria I. López, at the previous edition of the LED in 2017 in Cape Town (South Africa), to easily win out over proposals from major universities and research centers in China, Denmark and Turkey.

The collaboration of the Municipality with the CENIEH got under way that year with the preparation of the candidature for LED2020 through the Congresses Office of Burgos, and it will be materialized, among other actions, in a promotional video for this event which is being held in Spain for the first time, and with a welcome cocktail and reception hosted by the Mayor of Burgos, Daniel de la Rosa, for all participants, in the gardens of the Palacio de la Isla.

The official seat of LED2020 will be the Auditorium at the Fórum Evolución, within whose facilities the invited talks, the plenary sessions, the poster sessions, and the presentation of the seven awards conceded to outstanding students will all take place.

Given the importance of this Congress and the impact it will have on the city of Burgos, it is hoped that other institutions in the city, including the Museo de la Evolución Humana (MEH) and the Fundación Atapuerca, will also collaborate.
